Lenhart Preserve
Address: 10 Jordan Cove Road
Acquired: April 30, 1980
Size: 0.3 acres

This parcel was given to the Nature Conservancy of Connecticut, Inc. by Katherine B. Lenhart in 1969. The Nature Conservancy transferred the property to the WLT in 1980. This is a narrow strip of land directly on Jordan Cove, bordered by Jordan Cove Road to the north and is accessible to the public.
Located on the beautiful Jordan Cove.
There is one single parking spot used by the public to fish off the bridge that crosses the cove.
This property was acquired with the assistance of The Nature Conservancy of Connecticut, Inc.

Nestled alongside Jordan Cove with a breathtaking view of the cove and Long Island Sound is our Lenhart Preserve. Acquired in 1980, this 0.3-acre triangular plot is one of the smallest parcels in the Land Trust portfolio. Too small for walks, our stewardship generally involves visual inspection from Jordan Cove Road to ensure safety and cleanliness. Recent property improvement discussions inspired us to clear a small site to accommodate a granite bench and let us share the Lenhart view with the many walkers and cyclists who pass this way.
President Dave Lersch and Bert Chenard selected and cleared a tree-sheltered spot for the project. After confirming with the Town of Waterford that the location was suitable and no special permitting was required, we were joined by Dave DeNoia and Jim Luce to do the heavy lifting. Even though this was a small project, a lot of muscle was required! We poured a concrete slab base weighing more than 1100 pounds, added a bluestone surface and topped this platform with a sturdy granite bench. The materials were obtained locally from O & G Industries at a substantial discount, thank them the next time you do business with them. And many thanks to the Kitchings Family Foundation who funded the overall project!
